Many Team ABC athletes competed at The Spot Bouldering Series’ black light comp, Psychedelia, on October 20th. This event happens every year and is a ton of fun as The Spot puts up all kinds of cool features to climb on, everybody wears costumes, and the tape art is fantastic!
This year 4 Team ABC athletes climbed well enough to compete in the single open final problem. Isabelle Goodacre, Laurel Todd, Margo Hayes, and Matt Lubar all got in to the 6-person, 4 minutes per climber finals. The problems were crazy–the men’s went up several large volumes on the front of the Font boulder, and the women’s went through two hanging dog bones and across a rolling tube on the front of the Hueco boulder.
Isabelle and Laurel both climbed through the dog bones and tube and fell trying to hold a difficult swing to hold 10. Margo fell her first try on the first move, then got back on and made it through the problem to the top out. The crowd went crazy. First-place qualifier Nina Williams came out after Margo and also sent the problem in two tries, taking first as she qualified higher than Margo. Margo got 2nd, and Spot Team Coach Tiffany Hensley took 3rd. Laurel took 4th, Isabelle 5th, and Hailey Bridgewater 6th.
For the men, Matt Lubar was the first competitor to top out the boulder and the crowd went wild. First place qualifier Ben Hoberg also finished the problem, putting him in first and Lubar in 2nd. Greg Setiz took third. More here: Psychedelia 2012 Pro Final Results « The Spot Route Setting Blog
