Megan at Mount Evans last summer

We are very proud of Team ABC Boulder member Megan Mascarenas for winning her 3rd straight Junior Indoor Bouldering Series Championship. Megan won the girl’s 12-14 category. Nice job Megan!

A short rundown:

Qualifiers

Megan reports that the problems in the redpoint qualifer round were very good and she had a lot of fun climbing on them and hanging out with all the other climbers at the event.

After qualifiers Megan had the highest score for the girls in any age group and also had a higher score than most of the boys. The competition was strong and included several US Junior Team members like Kayla Lu, Carrie Scott, Zoe Steinberg (last year’s US Junior ABS National Champion), and Tiegan Wilson.

Finals

Finals were onsight style and held division by division (11 and under, 12-14, and 15-18 girls and boys). Megan flashed all 4 of her problems and won the comp. Nick Picarella (Boys 15-18) and Eli Frankel (Boys 11 and under) were the only other competitors to flash all their finals.

Megan went home with a new Marmot tent, $150, climbing shoes and lots of other schwag. She says she had a great time and met many nice people.
